Walk between the legendary Isli and Tislit Lakes, cross high-altitude passes, explore cedar forests, and hike through protected ecosystems rich in endemic flora and wildlife. Along the way, enjoy warm hospitality during overnight stays with local families in isolated Berber villages such as Anfgou and Anemzi.

Know before you go
  • This 7-day trekking experience in the Eastern High Atlas involves outdoor activities at high altitude and a moderate to challenging level of physical effort. Participants should be in good physical condition and able to walk several hours per day. Accommodation is simple and traditional, offering an authentic local experience. Weather conditions may vary, so appropriate hiking equipment and warm clothing are essential.
Itinerary

Day 1Imilchil – Isli & Tislit Lakes – Akka N’Ouanin

Meet the trekking team in Imilchil before starting the hike toward Lake Tislit. Enjoy birdwatching and a steady ascent to the Bab n’Ouyad ridge, followed by a descent to Lake Isli for a picnic. Continue on foot to the village of Akka N’Ouanin for dinner and an overnight stay with a local family.

Day 2Akka N’Ouanin – Tizi n’Tirghist – Anfgou

Climb gradually toward the Tizi n’Tirghist Pass, then descend toward the forest house area, a favorable zone for spotting Barbary sheep. Continue to Anfgou, where you learn about the history and symbolism of the famous Anfgou carpets. Dinner and overnight stay with a local family.

Day 3Anfgou Cultural Immersion Day

Enjoy a cultural day in Anfgou without portage. Visit a women’s cooperative, learn traditional carpet weaving techniques, and discover local craftsmanship. Participate in traditional construction methods and share moments of exchange with villagers. Dinner and overnight at the same accommodation.

Day 4Anfgou – Mount Sloul – Anemzi

Cross a high-altitude pass and approach Mount Sloul, with opportunities to observe the Barbary macaque. Stop for a picnic near Tamalout village before continuing toward Anemzi. Dinner and overnight stay with a local family.

Day 5Anemzi – Jbel Akdar – Kasbah Aberdouz

Tackle a sustained ascent toward the Tizi n’Tissli Pass, crossing mineral landscapes and descending through gorges. Pass by Hafoun Zafoun before reaching the historic Kasbah Aberdouz for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6Ascent of Mount Aberdouz (2,850 m)

Climb progressively to the summit of Mount Aberdouz, enjoying panoramic views over the Eastern High Atlas. Return via the same route and take part in a local evening with music, storytelling, mint tea, and dance. Overnight at Kasbah Aberdouz.

Day 7Ait Hattab – Outerbat Ecolodge

Descend through the villages of Ait Hattab, stopping for mint tea with locals and lunch along the way. Observe wildlife in the Bou Isoukrane area before finishing the trek at the Outerbat ecolodge.
